Projects

The Geopark Oltenia de sub Munte stands for projects and actions on several development directions:

1. Territory assessment: local natural (geodiversity and biodiversity) and cultural heritage, social and economic conditions, development prospects.

2. Promotion of local heritage: direct, online, in the press, through promotional materials, local products and events, through geopark ambassadors in the community and abroad.

3. Enhancing local heritage, in particular through ecotourism and geotourism, by creating local products, services and programmes.

4. Education: Junior Ranger Programme and Geoclubs programme in schools in the geopark territory.

5. Visitor infrastructure: creation and maintenance of thematic trails, hiking, biking, climbing trails, information points, signposting of objectives.

6. Development strategy for Oltenia de sub Munte for 2030.

7. Local partnerships and strategic partnerships.

Ongoing projects:

  1. Bioregional Weaving Labs is an international project, initiated in 2020, with partners from several European countries (Sweden, Ireland, Romania, Spain, France, Germany, Netherlands), coordinated by Ashoka Europe, Commonland and Presencing Institute, which aims to regenerate ecologically, socially and economically 1 million hectares in Europe by activating 1 million people. Oltenia de sub Munte is part of this project, with objectives of economic and social regeneration of the territory.
  2. Ranger Junior is the environmental education programme of the Kogayon Association, which has been running since 2007 and is continuously developed with the aim of involving children in activities of knowledge, appreciation and conservation of nature. So far more than 5000 children have participated in this programme free of cost. In addition to, there is also the Geoclubs programme. So far, the Costești Geoclub has been established and in 2022 it also ran a project for and with the pupils and teachers of Ferigile Costești General School. The Horezu Geoclub is currently being set up in the C-tin Brâncoveanu Horezu School Group.
  3. Elaboration of the Development Strategy of Oltenia de sub Munte for 2030.
  4. Vatra Satului - a project to develop a thematic trail in the village of Costești, in partnership with the Vatra Inn and the Vâlcea Community Foundation.
  5. Activities of territorial evaluation, promotion and valorisation of local heritage.
